  • Fellows Program Welcomes Newest Program Participant Megan Beddow

    The Fellows Program, an initiative of The Global foundation For Democracy and Development (GFFD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), is pleased to receive Megan Beddow into the program. Megan has earned a Bachelor Degree from Florida Southern College in math, sociology, and Spanish, and is currently a candidate of a double degree (MA and MPA) in the University of Indiana.  Her field of research includes the operation of nonprofit organizations, community
    development, and social entrepreneurship, with a focus on communities in Latin America and the Caribbean. Megan is currently seeking to use her analytical skills for international development.

  • UNIBE Students Join the Creative Recycling Wave with the ReCrearte Program

    As part of the celebration of the Environment Week 2015, on June 2, Unibe hosted an orientation session on ReCrearte, GFDD/Funglode creative recycling program. A total of 65 students majoring in Marketing, Medicine and Advertising joined the “green” wave of creative recycling. In addition, after the lecture, the young people enjoyed GFDD’s award-winning documentary “Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience,” which provides an overview of solid waste
    management at the national level, and provides practical solutions for its management.

  • UNIBE Kicks Off Environment Week 2015 With Film Screening

    UNIBE formally opened Environment Week 2015 – dedicated this year to the prestigious biologist and environmentalist Celeste Mir– with a screening of Lago Enriquillo: Preludio del cambio climático (Lake Enriquillo: Prelude to Climate Change). The film’s director, Fernando Báez, was present at the event, which was organized through UNIBE’s partnership with the Dominican Environmental Film Festival, an initiative of
    GFDD/Funglode.

  • GFDD/Funglode Golf Classic to be Held This July

    This event helps benefit GFDD/Fungode and its programs which support social, economic and democratic development in the Dominican Republic. It also serves as a networking opportunity for high-ranking officials, industry leaders, business executives, and celebrities. Previous tournaments have hosted leading individuals from the philanthropic field and prominent sports figures, along with others who have supported GFDD’s programs and projects. Mr. Juan Marichal, the first Dominican to
    be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, will carry on the tradition of being the first to tee off for the tournament.

  • Dominicans Get Together to Enjoy a Magical Night with Pavel Nuñez in New York

    The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) has once again brought together the Dominican community in New York City, this time to present the famous Dominican singer, musician, and songwriter Pavel Nunez. The popular event was held at the Symphony Space Theater in Manhattan this past Thursday, May 28 at 6:30 p.m.

  • DREFF and Dominican Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Work Together to Promote Social-Economic Development

    The Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of the Dominican Republic signed a collaboration agreement with the aim of promoting sustainable social-economic development and environmental awareness in the Dominican Republic. Natasha Despotovic, Executive Director of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), and Bautista Rojas Gómez, Environment and Natural Resources Minister, signed the agreement,
    the goals of which include promoting a culture that encourages the proper management and use of natural resources in Dominican society.

  • GFDD/Funglode Showcases its ReCrearte Program at the UN as a Model for Sustainability and the Empowerment of Local Communities

    GFDD & Funglode partnered with the NGO Committees on Financing for Development and Social Development to hold a panel discussion entitled Do we have the Courage to Put People and Planet First? The Challenges of Financing for Development during the Intergovernmental Negotiations on the Post-20I5 Development Agenda on Friday May 22. The lunchtime event, which was moderated by Barbara Adams, Senior Policy Advisor of the Global Policy Forum opened the event before
    a packed auditorium comprised of civil society representatives, UN Member State delegates and UN agency representatives.
