InteRDom Program Organizes Cultural Trip to Salcedo and Santiago
On Saturday, June 28, 2008, the InteRDom program organized its second major excursion of the summer, a cultural trip to visit the Mirabal Sisters Museum in Salcedo and the Centro Leon in Santiago. During the three-hour bus ride to the interior, tour guide, Tirso Cabra, recounted the story of the Mirabal Sisters. Among the most famous female protagonists throughout Dominican history, the sisters where ordered to be killed by former dictator, Rafael Trujillo.

GMAI Celebrates Graduation of Audiovisual Production Class and Presentation of Student Works
On June 27, 2008, the Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), held a ceremony for the twenty-two students that participated in the Introduction to Audiovisual Production for Film and Television Course.

Presentation of DRGFF to Industry Professionals in Hollywood
The Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (DRGFF) was presented to a select Hollywood community as part of a four-day visit to California by the DRGFF General Director, Natasha Despotovic, and the Festival Marketing and Promotion Manager, Asuncion Sanz, which included meetings with filmmakers like Sandra Condito, Ivette Rodriguez, Elizabeth Avellan, Bret Ratner, the Director of UCLA Film and TV Archive Department, Dr. Jan-Christopher Horak, the Director of the UCLA School of Film,
TV and Theater, Barbara Boyle, and the Director of the Creative Writing Program of the University of California at Riverside, Dr. Tom Lutz and Cathryn Galan and Octavio Marín of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP), among others.

On June 10, 2008, as part of the week-long orientation session, InteRDom’s Business Day acquainted students with the intricacies of their internships. During the event, representatives from participating organizations and businesses presented in-depth descriptions of the programs and projects with which the interns would be working.

Official Start of InteRDom’s Spanish as a Second Language Program
InteRDom’s Spanish as a Second Language Course officially began June 11, 2008. The class forms part of the InteRDom 2008 Academic Summer Program. The course will offer participants the tools necessary to develop competency in the Spanish language. Students will work on their vocabulary and participate in debates which will allow them to apply acquired knowledge of grammatical structures.
