On Friday, October 26, Former President of the Dominican Republic and President of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), Dr. Leonel Fernández, attended the Eighth Session of the International Conference of the Americas (CILA 2012), celebrated at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana.

The Dominican Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Environment, available on line in Spanish since 2008 and in print since 2011, is now available on line in English. While the modern world faces many environmental challenges, effective conservation and protection of our natural environment will require informed and concerned citizens.

Global Roundtable to Host Angola’s Ambassador

UNA-DR, GFDD and FUNGLODE Inaugurate CILA 2012
The United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic (UNA-DR), with support from Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), inaugurated with great satisfaction, yesterday, October 24, the eighth edition of the International Conference of the Americas (CILA 2012), at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana.

Eighth Edition of the International Conference of the Americas (CILA) Begins Today
Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) are partnering with the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic (UNA-DR) to convene the eighth edition of the International Conference of the Americas (CILA) – the student oriented conference on global issues of greatest transcendence in Latin America and the Caribbean.

GFDD and FUNGLODE Participate in the Discover POP Tourism Fair
Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister institution in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), participated in the Discover POP Tourism Fair (Discover Puerto Plata), organized by Cluster del Destino Puerto Plata (Cluster Destination Puerto Plata).

The Fellows Program Announces Research Initiative with New York University Child Study Center on the Effects of Developmental Transactions during Early Childhood on the Mental Health and Functioning of Young Dominican Children
The Fellows Program is pleased to announce that it will be collaborating with the New York University Child Study Center to realize a research project that will investigate how parenting practices impact the well-being and development of young children. The initiative will complement other studies undertaken by the Child Study Center to identify risks and protective factors that affect the mental health and functioning of children of Dominican and Mexican heritage in New York
City.

DREFF Hosts Event to Present the Findings of the Fundación Vida Azul 2012 Coastal Clean-up Report
On October 15, the Dominican Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), partnered with Fundación Vida Azul to present the institute’s “2012 Coastal Clean-Up Report” at FUNGLODE Headquarters in Santo Domingo. The outcome document is a statistical assessment of the results of the national coastal clean-up project organized internationally by The Ocean Conservancy.

GFDD/FUNGLODE Will Showcase Publications at “Discover POP” Tourism Fair
Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) will participate in the first-ever “Discover POP” Tourism Fair organized by the Clúster Turistico del Destino Puerto Plata (Destination Puerto Plata Tourism Cluster), to be celebrated at Ocean World Casino & Marina, located in Cofresi, from October 19-21.

DREFF Will Partner with Fundación Vida Azul to Present Fundación Vida Azul’s “2012 Coastal Clean-Up Report”
The Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), an initiative of GFDD and FUNGLODE, will partner with Fundación Vida Azul to present Fundación Vida Azul’s “2012 Coastal Clean-Up Report.” The report is a statistical assessment of the results of the national coastal clean-up project organized internationally by The Ocean Conservancy. The study analyzes the types of trash collected and the principal sources of contamination.
