Writer and Filmmaker Jon Bowermaster Discusses the Dangers of Fracking and the Importance of Conserving Antarctica’s Environmental Resources
A noted oceans expert and longtime grantee of the National Geographic Expeditions Council, Jon Bowermaster has undergone numerous expeditions to the Antarctic over the past 25 years. As a result of his travels, Jon has become a keen advocate for environmental protection issues.

Global Dominican Academic Exchange Program Participants Form New Friendships at National Dominican Student Conference
More than 500 attendees came together from March 27-30 at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts for the largest National Dominican Student Conference (NDSC) in its 8-year history, and for the first time students from the Dominican Republic participated in the conference via the Global Dominican Academic Exchange Program (GDAE).

On March 28, as part of its commitment to raising awareness concerning the conservation of the environment through its programs, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development partnered with the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital (DCEFF) to showcase four Dominican short films at the GALA Hispanic Theatre in Columbia Heights.

For the second time since 2013, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) will partner with the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital to reinforce and expand the Spanish-speaking film program and encourage the involvement and attendance of the Hispanic community.

Nine Dominican college students arrive to Boston today as part of the Global Dominican Academic Exchange Program (GDAE) to participate in the 8th National Dominican Student Conference, from March 27-30 at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Environmental Filmmaker Jon Bowermaster to Explain Importance of Banning the Practice of Fracking
At the end of March, the GFDD Global Roundtable will be hosting noted oceans expert and longtime grantee of the National Geographic Expeditions Council, Jon Bowermaster to discuss the importance of banning natural gas exploitation through hydraulic fracturing (or fracking – the controversial process of extracting natural gas from shale rock layers deep within the earth).

Fellows Program Generates Interest Among SIPA Students at Columbia University
Columbia University played host to the first-ever Fellows Program information session on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, to promote research opportunities in the Dominican Republic to Masters and PhD candidate students at the School for International and Public Affairs (SIPA).

GFDD and FUNGLODE Announce Launch of Research and Ideas Diaspora Book At Medgar Evers College
On April 8, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development will be launching the English Version of one of its publications from the Research and Ideas Series at the book presentation of one of its most recent editions, "The Presence of Africa in the Caribbean, the Antilles and the United States."

Columbia University Hosts First Fellows Program Information Session
Fellows Program representatives will travel to Columbia University on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm to promote the Fellows Program to Masters and PhD candidate students at the School for International and Public Affairs (SIPA).
