GFDD/Funglode at Dominican Book Fair in New York with Publications, Presentation of Programs and Conference with Veloz Maggiolo
The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), participated once again in the Dominican Book Fair in New York, now in its ninth year. This year’s Book Fair was held at Gregorio Luperón High School in Manhattan from September 26-28.

GFDD Book Launch and Discussion on Dominican Republic and China: Exchange, Trade, and Investment
Under the series “Research and Ideas”, GFDD will launch the book “Dominican Republic and P.R. China: Exchange, Trade, and Investment”, in which researcher Yuan Li demonstrates through data and analysis the extent of Chinese economic influence in the Dominican Republic, including trade relationships, economic activity of the Chinese diaspora in the country, foreign direct investment, and policy recommendations to maximize the benefits of these relationships.

New GFDD Advisory Committee
Various personalities from the world of academia, medicine, communication, entertainment, sports, and design, among other sectors, are now part of the new Advisory Committee of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), which took shape yesterday at a meeting in New York that was presided over by GFDD President, Dr. Leonel Fernández and its Executive Director, Natasha Despotovic.

GFDD to Meet with Civil Society Organizations in Lima, Peru
The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) will attend upcoming civil society organization meetings in Lima, Peru as part of its mission of engaging in strategic regional events that focus on relevant topics to the socioeconomic sustainable development of the Americas. Other non-governmental organizations, community groups, labor unions, and similar groups and foundations will also be in attendance at the meetings in October.

GFDD Film “Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience” Will be Screened on October 18th at the United Nations Association Film Festival
The GFDD film, “Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience” has been chosen to screen at the upcoming 18th United Nations Association Film Festival (UNAFF), held in California this October. “Garbage or Resource?” has been screened at over a dozen different international film festivals since its production in 2013, and has won several awards including Best Documentary at the Miami Short Film Festival (MSFF), Best Documentary at the Green Lens Environmental Film Festival, and
the Second Place Fan Coral Award at the Reef Renaissance Film Festival.

GFDD/Funglode Signs Collaboration Agreement with Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn
The president of GFDD/Funglode, Dr. Leonel Fernández, signed an agreement with Medgar Evers College in New York to create a platform for reflection on Caribbean subjects, including perspectives on history, economics, politics, and the culture of his country as well as that of Cuba, Haiti, and Puerto Rico.
