  • US Embassy supports DREFF 2015

    The United States Embassy in the Dominican Republic supported the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) in its fifth edition. The award allowed five U.S. filmmakers to visit DREFF, September 8-13, 2015, and to screen their films to Dominican audiences around the country. Ruth Urry, Cultural Attaché of the American Embassy in Santo Domingo, gave warm remarks on the opening night of DREFF, thanking the opportunity to be part of this initiative, consistent with
    their sustainable development aims, and their academic and cultural exchange programs in the country.

  • Opening Night of the DREFF 2015 Starts a Great Week of Films and Environmental Education in 11 Cities across the Country

    The 5th Dominican Environmental Film Festival, which will be held from September 8th to 11th in 11 cities in the country, was inaugurated in Santo Domingo yesterday with the film Landfill Harmonic and the special presence of its protagonists: the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura from Paraguay, who are the guests of honor at this year’s festival. In a room full of people at the Palacio del Cine at Ágora Mall, international and national guests, environmental
    experts, representatives of governmental bodies and non-governmental organizations, and spectators of all ages were present for a night filled with good movies, surprises. and lots of emotion.

  • 100 Loyola Students Learn How to Make Environmental Short Films in 72 Hours

    In an effort to train a new generation of Dominican filmmakers to spread the message about environmental protection and sustainable development, the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) offered a workshop to students at Colegio Loyola in Santo Domingo. The workshop is called “Environmental Short Films in 72 Hours.”

  • GFDD and Funglode to launch fall publication titled Climate Change Adaptation in the Dominican Republic: Impact on Coastal Resources and Communities

    GFDD and Funglode will launch a new edition of their publication series Research and Ideas in English and in Spanish, in the fall of 2015 in both the United States and the Dominican Republic. The publication which is titled Climate Change Adaptation in the Dominican Republic: Impact on Coastal Resources and Communities isauthored by 2014 GFDD Fellows, Ms. Hilary Lohmann and Mr. Mat Rosa. The studies present an analysis of the adaptive capacity of individuals
    involved in various sectors of employment in three Dominican coastal communities, as well as the status of governance factors driving climate change adaptation planning for coastal resources in Santo Domingo.

  • The DREFF and a New Generation of Dominican Filmmakers

    The 5th Dominican International Film Festival, which will be held on September 8 to 13th in 11 cities in the country, aims to develop a new generation of environmental filmmakers. In this year’s festival, in addition to the panels and forums with national and international experts that will be held after each screening, the DREFF will hold 4 workshops and two master classes. Funglode´s headquaters will welcome a workshop on DSLR technology and low-cost film-making, the master class
    by director Denis Delestrac called “My 10 Rules for Making Documentaries” and the workshop “Green Activism: Promoting Environmental Consciousness through Images.”

  • San Juan de la Maguana Welcomes the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival Once Again

    From September 9 to 12, San Juan de la Maguana will be one of the 11 cities to welcome this year the 5th annual Dominican Environmental Film Festival, an initiative of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode). The Monina Cámpora Cultural Center is the chosen stage for activities and free screenings. On Wednesday, September 9th, at 6:00 pm, the inauguration of the festival will take place with the screening
    of the documentary The Wisdom to Survive and the participation of the producer Angela Alston and other special guests from the country and elsewhere.
