GFDD Celebrates Elephant Conservation at the NY Wild Film Festival
GFDD was present for the inauguration of the NY Wild Film Festival at The Explorers Club in New York on Thursday January 29. The festival, followed the entry of over 200 films from 27 countries across the globe , the first annual documentary film festival in New York to showcase a spectrum of topics, from exploration and adventure to wildlife and the environment, bringing all things WILD to the most urban city in the world.

Dr. Fenández Urges Latin America and the Caribbean to Rethink Their Production Model
The president of GFDD/Funglode, Dr. Leonel Fernández, affirmed that the region of Latin America and the Caribbean should rethink their production model in order to regain economic growth and to be able to face global challenges.

Year Round Environmental Film Screenings begin 2016 with the projection of “Cotton Road” in the ITSC San Luis
The program Year Round Environmental Film Screenings of the Dominican Republic Environmenral Film Festival began this year on January 25, with the presentation of the documentary “Cotton Road” in the ITSC San Luis in Santo Domingo. About 60 students participated in the activity that is part of the Film Forum program of the school and is celebrated thanks to the agreement signed between the DREFF -a GFDD / Funglode initiative- and ITSC.

GFDD Participates in 70th Anniversary Celebrations of UN Economic and Social Council
GFDD, in its capacity as an accredited non-profit organization with special consultative status to United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), participated in the Commemoration of ECOSOC’s 70th Anniversary on Friday, January 22, 2016. The special event brought together former and present Bureau Members of the Council and other stakeholders that have and continue to play major positive roles in upholding ECOSOC’s mission in fully achieving global sustainable development,
while recognizing that they still face major challenges in the road to make the 2030 Agenda a reality.

GFDD/Funglode to Host UN Panel Discussion on Financing Tools for Reducing Social Inequalities during CSocD54
To advance the commitments made during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) in 2015, to reduce inequalities in the global social development and to care for the future of our planet GFDD/Funglode along with the NGO Committee on Social Development and the NGO Committee on Financing for Development will host an interactive debate on Thursday February 4, 2016 from 1.15pm to 2.30pm at the United Nations Conference Room E.

Dominican Film Showcase Presents Quarterly Program in Collaboration with DR Embassy in Washington, DC
The Dominican Film Showcase in Washington, D.C. presents this year a new initiative with the support of the Dominican Republic Embassy. During 2016, GFDD’s Dominican Film Showcase will be screening a wonderful selection of Dominican films in collaboration with the Dominican Republic Embassy in the United States. The quarterly program will start with the first screening on March 1, 2016, with the film No hay más remedio.

More than 200 professor of Social and Natural Sciences attend workshop in leadup to 23rd Geography Week
As part of the preparatory events for the 23rd annual Geography Week, the auditorium of the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) hosted more than 200 social and natural sciences teachers, who received information on the significance of the slogan for this year’s event: “Let’s Explore! The Power of the Island’s Geography.”
