The Dominican Republic Model United Nations Conference (NYDRMUN) 2016, a conference organized by the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic (UNA-DR) with support from Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) came to a close today on Wednesday March 30. The Closing Ceremony took place, before more than 400 model UN delegates from middle schools across the Dominican Republic, in the General Assembly
Hall of the United Nations (UN).

GFDD to Host Panel Discussion at the 2016 World Bank Civil Society Policy Forum
GFDD, in partnership with the NGO Committee for Social Development and the NGO Committee on Financing for Development, will hold a panel discussion during the 2016 World Bank Civil Society Policy Forum entitled “Financing Tools for Reducing Social Inequalities” in the run up to the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the IMF. The panel will feature a wide variety of high-level speakers, including UN Member State delegates, World Bank and IMF Representatives, as well as civil
society experts.

Dominican Environmental Short Films and ReCrearte Workshops go to Cuba
Three Dominican environmental short films will participate in the “Festival Internacional del Cine Pobre” in Gibara-Holguin, Cuba, to be held from April 20 to 24, 2016: GFDD’s shorts Value of Life and Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience; and 7 Grams (winner of the Premio Globo Verde Dominicano 2015). In addition, as part of the programming of the Cuban festival, Bertha Santana will host recycling workshops for
children, youth and adults in the community, as part of GFDD´s program ReCrearte.

More than 450 Dominican Students Will Be Participating at the NYDRMUN 2016
The United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic in collaboration with Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), held the opening ceremony of the eleventh edition of the Dominican Republic Model United Nations in New York (NYDRMUN 2016) at the Hotel Grand Hyatt.

Strengthening the Bond with our Partners at the DCEFF
A total of 12 days of films, discussions on environment, work meetings and passion; passion for the cinema, for sustainable development and alternative ways of living for a healthier coexistence with our neighbors and the planet. For the fifth consecutive year, the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) teamed up with the DC Environmental Film Festival (DCEFF) and participated to the fullest in the screenings and events that took place in the nation’s capital.

InteRDom Promotes Summer and Fall Opportunities at the Manhattanville College Spring Job and Internship Fair

“Gender-Based Violence is an Impediment to the Empowerment of Women and the Dominican Republic’s Sustainable Development” States GFDD during CSW60
GFDD was present as the 60th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW60) concluded on Thursday March 24th, following two weeks of negotiations. UN Member States committed to the gender-responsive implementation of the United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. A set of agreed conclusions called for enhancing the basis for rapid progress, including stronger laws, policies and institutions, better data and scaled-up financing.

Value of Life and 7 Gramos at Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival
GFDD’s production Value of Life and Globo Verde Dominicano Award winner 7 Gramos will be presented at the 19th annual Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF) April 1 at 10am, at Ithaca College campus. The event will be open to the public and free of charge.

“Vuelos Prohibidos”, an ICAIC and Funglode Co-production, Premieres in New York
The most recent production of the Cuban director Rigoberto López, “Vuelos Prohibidos”, will premiere April 25 at the Lincoln Center in New York City. The director and cast will attend the premiere, along with the President of Funglode/GFDD, Dr. Leonel Fernández, and the Executive Director of GFDD, Natasha Despotovic, institutions that organized the event in the Big Apple.
