  • GFDD/Funglode Signs an Agreement with CUNY Graduate School of Journalism

    Dr. Leonel Fernández signed yesterday, on behalf of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), a memorandum of understanding with the Graduate School of Journalism of the City University of New York (CUNY), with the perspective of future inter-institutional academic collaborations.

  • Leonel Fernández Praises Jimmy Sierra’s Intellectual and Literary Career

    The President of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), Dr. Leonel Fernández, attended Tuesday April 26 to the launch of the novel “Idolatría”, by the well-known Dominican writer and filmmaker Jimmy Sierra, with whom he maintains a forty years friendship.

  • Cuba Welcomes with Great Enthusiasm Dominican Environmental Films and Recycled Art

    The Dominican Environmental Film Festival, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), was present at the 12th Festival del Cine Pobre de Gibara, in Holguin, Cuba, held from April 20 to 24, with a busy agenda:  screening of three documentaries—two GFDD productions and the winner of Premio Globo Verde Dominicano 2015—promoting creative recycling; and participating in a panel commemorating Earth
    Day.

  • “The PLD at the Heart of April”, an article by Dr. Leonel Ferná;ndez

    The 1965 April Revolution was the direct consequence of the September 1963 coup d’état against the government of Dr. Juan Bosch. The two events together marked the end of the first phase of the Dominican Republic’s democratic transition after the collapse of the dictatorship of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo.

  • UN Secretary-General stated that “We have the collective responsibility to turn these landmark agreements into tangible actions.”

    GFDD/Funglode participated in three major conferences at the United Nations Headquarters in New York during the week of April 18, 2016. Although the events covered different topics they were all interconnected in providing the pathway to achieve the post-2015 Development Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through interactive panel discussions and presentations led by international policy experts, the participants gained valuable insight on each country’s
    standing on the implementation of the goals, and solutions to ensure that no one is left behind.

  • Nobel Prize Rajendra Pachauri Meets with Dr. Leonel Fernández at GFDD’s New York Office

    Rajendra Pachauri (born in Nainital, India, on August 20, 1940) visited today the offices of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) in New York, where he met with the President of Funglode/GFDD, Dr. Leonel Fernández and the Executive Director of GFDD, Natasha Despotovic. Pachauri was leader of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) from 2000 to 2015, during which time the organization was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. During the meeting, Dr.
    Pachauri and Dr. Fernández discussed several collaboration projects in the area of environment and sustainable socio-economic development.

  • The Queen of Merengue Dazzles the New York Audience in the Second Dominican Get Together of 2016

    The Dominican. Latin community and lovers of Dominican culture turned “outside and inside” last evening to be part of this intimate gathering with the famous singer Milly Quezada who very pleasantly shared anecdotes about her life and her career with the audience in an auditorium filled to its capacity. Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) celebrated its second Dominican Get-Togethers of 2016 on April 21 at the Symphony Space Theater in New York City with the
    presence of the famous and beloved Dominican singer, Milly Quezada, “The Queen of Merengue”.
