During Santo Domingo’s International Book Fair, held from April 19-30, 2018, children and adolescents were treated to special showings of short documentaries and feature films on how to care and protect the environment.

GFDD/Funglode Actively Engaged with the Public during the Geography Week
The 7th Geography Week Fair was held on April 25 and 26, 2018, continuing an annual tradition that makes available an informative space where visitors can educate themselves and incorporate the fundamentals on the importance of learning about geography as a science that is devoted to the study of places and people and their relationship with their environment. This initiative is being organized by Plan LEA, which is an initiative of Listín Diario, and GFDD/Funglode have been part of
it for several years.

U.N. Side Event Discussion on Financial Inclusion and Financial Stability
On Wednesday April 25th, 2018, the NGO Committee on Financing for Development organized a side event at United Nations Headquarters in New York to present the progress made by financial inclusion strategies to reduce income equality, alleviate poverty and shrink the gender gap. The event was part of the agenda of the Financial Development Forum that took place from April 23-26, 2018.

Leonel Ferná;ndez Gives Speech at Columbia University on “Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean”
Former President of the Dominican Republic and Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD/Funglode) President, Dr. Leonel Fernández, gave a presentation at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs in New York City, where he spoke about different topics related to the sustainable economic development of Latin America and the Caribbean.

NGO Committee on Financing for Development Announces Panel on “Financial Inclusion to Financial Stability”
The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), along with other important partners, announce the celebration of a panel this April 25 where participants can share the progress made in their respective countries and institutions on financial inclusion strategies designed to reduce income equality, alleviate poverty and shrink the gender gap.

In the most recent edition of the GFDD Global Roundtables, Maria Victoria Abreu, GFDD’s International Affairs and Socio-Economic Development Program Manager, interviews Luis Almagro Lemes, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), at the GFDD offices in Washington, DC. Among many other topics, the two spoke about the role of the OAS in the regional democratic processes including the electoral observation missions, the new institutional challenges for the OAS,
and the upcoming General Assembly to be held in the Nation’s capital in June 2018.
