Governments Agree to Step Up Action to Achieve Gender Equality at Opening Ceremony of CSW59
GFDD was present as the 59th Session of the Commission on the Status (CSW59) opened today before a packed General Assembly Hall at United Nations Headquarters. With record attendance by civil society, the conference hall was rapidly filled to capacity, forcing CSW59 organizers to send the remaining participants to two extra overflow rooms from which they could view the opening ceremony. During the event, governments also agreed to step up action to achieve gender equality.

GFDD Attends UN Seminar Promoting the Importance of Education for a Successful Post 2015 Development Agenda
GFDD was present at United Nations Headquarters on Friday March 6 2015, for a dual event organized by UNESCO and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations. The event included two parts: a morning briefing on the upcoming World Education Forum (the Forum) to be held in Incheon, Republic of Korea on 19-22 May 2015 and an afternoon seminar focused on UNESCO’s Global Citizenship Education initiative.

First Dominican Get-Together of 2015 Begins in New Jersey with the Screening of La Montaña
About 200 students from Pyne Poynt Middle School, Woodrow Wilson High School and East High School attended the first Dominican Get-Together of 2015 organized by GFDD/Funglode, held on February 27 in the city of Camden, New Jersey. The event took place at the Salvation Army Kroc Center, where participants enjoyed the screening of the documentary La Montaña, a film which presents the adventure of the first Dominican expedition to reach the top of Mount Everest, shows
the contrast of the highest mount in the world and the low lands of the Caribbean, as the three climbers surpass the difficult track to the top.

GFDD Donates Books to the Pennsauken Free Public Library in New Jersey
The Pennsauken Free Public Library of Camden, NJ, received its first book donation for the Latin American Book Collection Sectionfrom Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD). The donation was received by Mayor Rick Taylor who thanked the foundation for the support to the library. The collection of books included the Dominican Best Seller New Perspectives: Dominican Republic and Dominican Republic Encyclopedic Dictionary of the
Environment, among others.

GFDD to Host Presentation of a Research Study on the Elimination of Violence against Women in the Dominican Republic at CSW 59
On March 18, 2015, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations and the Dominican Political Observatory (OPD) of Funglode, will host the presentation of a research study at the United Nations entitled The Elimination of Violence Against Women.

90 Students Climb the Highest Mountain in the Caribbean in the 12th Educational Expedition to Pico Duarte
The 12th Educational Expedition to Pico Duarte, part of the initiatives of the RDescubre program, was successfully held when 90 students from various schools in the Dominican Republic had the opportunity to climb Pico Duarte, the highest mountain in the Caribbean. The event, organized by Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) in collaboration with Siempre Más Foundation, took place from
