On August 22, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), in partnership with its sister institution in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), will convene the conference “Political Polarization in the United States and the Presidential Elections,” with Senior Researcher of the New America Foundation and Founder of the institution’s American Strategy Program, Steve Clemons. The conference will begin at 7:00 pm at FUNGLODE Headquarters

DREFF Workshop on Community Gardens in Partnership with Banreservas Comes to a Successful Close
Saturday, August 4, 2012, marked the close of the 5 day workshop on Community Gardens implemented by the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), in conjunction with Banreservas at Club Banreservas in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The program, which commenced on July 7 and took place over the course of 5 Saturdays, provided participants
with instruction on how to create and maintain box gardens, utilizing organic agricultural techniques. The workshop was taught by Cristinia Cruz Minier, expert in botany and environmental science.

First Meeting for DREFF 2012 Volunteers
On Thursday, August 2, the organizers of the Second Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister institution in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), convened the first meetings for potential volunteers. The second edition of the Festival will be celebrated September 5-9, 2012.

DREFF Partners with Dominican Mountaineer Karim Mella to Realize Student Expedition to Pico Duarte
Following the success of the first-ever DREFF organized student expedition to Pico Duarte, which took place April 2-5, 2012, professional mountaineer and DREFF contributor Karim Mella and his foundation Fundación “Siempre Más” coordinated a subsequent trip, July 5-8, for thirty five students from the Politécnico Ave María de Villa Mella and the Liceo La Salle de Capotillo public high schools.
