”Flor de Azúcar” Represents Dominican Filmmaking at the Ibero-American Film Showcase 2017 in Washington D.C.
The Dominican film ‘Flor de Azúcar’, by the award winning director Fernando Báez, was screened successfully at the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in the United States. The event, co-hosted by GFDD as part of its Dominican Film Showcase initiative, was part of the Ibero-American Film Showcase 2017, an annual celebration by the Network of Ibero-American Cultural Attachés in the capital of the United States (Red Iberoamericana de Agregados Culturales /
Ibero-America Cultura DC).

Dominican Community in Florida Supports Leonel Fernández’s Book Launch
President of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), Dr. Leonel Fernández, launched his book collection “Democracy, Modernity and Progress,” which contains a compilation of speeches given during his three presidential terms, on Saturday night in Doral, Florida, at the Grand Doral Ballroom of the Intercontinental Hotel in Doral.

DREFF Environmental Film Also in the 2017 Santo Domingo International Book Fair
As part of the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival’s (DREFF) mission to promote as well as educate and spread awareness about good environmental practices, the Funglode/GFDD stand in the 2017 Santo Domingo International Book Fair was the scene for screenings of environmental film, one activity among the jam-packed agenda of events organized by those foundations.

Five and Six Year Old Students from Two Santo Domingo Schools Take Part in Fun, Educational Recycling Workshops
ReCrearte coordinator Lucia Marte had a busy day on Thursday, April 27, when she facilitated creative recycling activities at Escuela Higuero Abajo and Escuela Perantuen in Santo Domingo, DR. Marte’s first stop was in the morning at Escuela Higuero Abajo, where she was joined by 14 students, as well as two teachers from that school.

GFDD Commemorates Earth Day in the National Botanical Garden with more than 200 High School Students
On April 23, to commemorate Earth Day, more than 200 students from schools in Santo Domingo participated in screenings of the documentaries “10 Billion, What”s on Your Plate,” by Director Valentin Thurn, and “The True Cost,” by Andrew Morgan, within the Year Round Environmental Film Screenings Program of the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF).
