  • Simple, Profound, with a Message of Hope: La familia Reyna Arrives to Washington DC Loaded with Emotion

    A simple story with a deep – and inspiring – message. La familia Reyna is any family and every family. That’s why everyone (or nearly everyone) who attended last night’s screening of the film in the Art Museum of the Americas (AMA) felt moved by it, in one way or another. The screening, part of GFDD’s Dominican Film Showcase, was attended by one of the protagonists, Danilo Reynoso, who is also the film’s producer.

  • A Cry for Freedom, Love and Justice: “Flor de Azúcar” Wins Over Audience in Washington DC at it US Premiere

    It was truly a night to remember. The US premiere of veteran film director Fernando Báez’s Flor de Azúcar (Sugar Fields) at the opening night of the Dominican Film Showcase in Washington DC turned into a tribute to Dominican film, Dominican women and one of the best Dominican writers of all time, Juan Bosch…and of course, Fernando Báez himself. In addition, other pleasant news emerged: Flor de Azúcar has been shortlisted as a nominee for Best
    Foreign Film at this year’s Academy Awards, a milestone in Dominican and Latin American film history.

  • Leonel Fernández Draws Attention to Latin America’s Weakness in Science and Innovation

    The president of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), former Dominican Republic president, Dr. Leonel Fernández, has called attention to the weaknesses that are dragging down the Latin America and Caribbean region with regard to science, technology, innovation, and patent registration, which puts it at a disadvantage with respect to the rest of the world.

  • The Dominican Book Fair in New York Recognizes GFDD/Funglode as Special Collaborator

    Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) successfully participated, collaborating with the celebration of important activities, in the 10th edition of the Dominican Book Fair in NY, which took place from October 28 to 30. On this occasion GFDD/Funglode received recognition as a special collaborator of the annual Dominican Book Fair.

  • GFDD Production Value of Life Finalist at the Blue Ocean Film Festival 2016

    Value of Life, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) latest production, has been chosen by an international jury as a finalist, together with other 5 films, in the category of Short Productions. This category honors the best short films between 5 and 20 minutes in length that are “engaging, creative and empowering”, according to the organizers.  Furthermore, it is Natasha Despotovic´s, the Executive Director of GFDD and DREFF, third year as a
    judge; in this edition for the category of Cinematography. As collaborators and friends Blue Ocean Film Festival, Despotovic, and other members of the staff will attend the event to take place November 10 to 17 in Tampa Bay/ St. Petersburg.

  • The Mexican Sunú, DREFF Audience Award 2016

    The Mexican film Sunú, directed by Teresa Camou, rose to the top this year as winner of the DREFF Audience Award from among more than 40 films and 140 screenings. Seen through the eyes of small, medium, and large Mexican maize producers, Sunú weaves different stories in a threatened rural world.
