GFDD Participates in 70th Anniversary Celebrations of UN Economic and Social Council
GFDD, in its capacity as an accredited non-profit organization with special consultative status to United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), participated in the Commemoration of ECOSOC’s 70th Anniversary on Friday, January 22, 2016. The special event brought together former and present Bureau Members of the Council and other stakeholders that have and continue to play major positive roles in upholding ECOSOC’s mission in fully achieving global sustainable development,
while recognizing that they still face major challenges in the road to make the 2030 Agenda a reality.

Dominican Film Showcase Presents Quarterly Program in Collaboration with DR Embassy in Washington, DC
The Dominican Film Showcase in Washington, D.C. presents this year a new initiative with the support of the Dominican Republic Embassy. During 2016, GFDD’s Dominican Film Showcase will be screening a wonderful selection of Dominican films in collaboration with the Dominican Republic Embassy in the United States. The quarterly program will start with the first screening on March 1, 2016, with the film No hay más remedio.

GFDD/Funglode to Host UN Panel Discussion on Financing Tools for Reducing Social Inequalities during CSocD54
To advance the commitments made during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) in 2015, to reduce inequalities in the global social development and to care for the future of our planet GFDD/Funglode along with the NGO Committee on Social Development and the NGO Committee on Financing for Development will host an interactive debate on Thursday February 4, 2016 from 1.15pm to 2.30pm at the United Nations Conference Room E.

More than 200 professor of Social and Natural Sciences attend workshop in leadup to 23rd Geography Week

The Power of the Island’s Geography.”

Leonel Fernández Says Multilateral Organizations Need to Undergo a Process of Profound Change
In his lecture, Fernández also made reference to Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs publications, which predicted that oil prices could reach $20 a barrel this year, due to falling demand in China as well as the appreciation of US currency, the result of devaluation among such currencies as the Chinese Yuan, the Brazilian Real, and others.

GFDD Attends Debate on the Outcome of the Paris Climate Conference with New York Times Environment Correspondent
The Paris agreement made history as the universal climate change agreement, binding every country on earth to take action to reduce their carbon emissions. Unfortunately, the action pledged so far by countries will only cut emissions by about half as much as required to avoid the worst impacts of global warming.

75 Students Climb Highest Mountain in the Caribbean with RDescubre
The 15th Educational Expedition to Pico Duarte, part of the initiatives of the RDescubre program, was successfully held when 75 students from Liceo Escuela Hermano Miguel from Santiago, Liceo Profesora Mercedes Muñoz, Fe y Alegría from Cambita el Pueblecito (San Cristobal), and Politécnico Ann and Ted Kheel from Veron (Punta Cana), had the opportunity to climb Pico Duarte, the highest mountain in the Caribbean.
