  • International Leaders and Civil Society Urge Action on Climate Change

    The Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and of the World Bank Group meet once a year to discuss the work of their respective institutions. This year, these Annual Meetings were held in Lima, Peru, the week of October 5. In addition, the Civil Society Policy Forum, a program of events including policy sessions for civil society organizations, was held simultaneously.

  • InteRDom to Participate in 8th Annual Baruch College Work Abroad Fair

    The InteRDom program has a long relationship with Baruch College, both in hosting interns at their New York headquarters and placing students in internships in the Dominican Republic. This fair is a unique opportunity for program representatives to meet students who are interested in careers overseas, and in years past has helped recruit excellent talent for programs and opportunities in the Dominican Republic.

  • Dominican Night at CinemAmbiente 2015 in Turin

    Three Dominican-made films were screened at the CinemAmbiente film festival in Turin, Italy this October. The GFDD productions Value of Life and Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience, both directed by Natasha Despotovic, and 7 Gramos, directed by Jonatán Vila Gómez, were shown at the festival on October 8th. Despotovic, executive director of GFDD and DREFF, was present at the festival to present the films and
    serve as a juror within the festival.

  • “The Key to Resilience is Adaptive Capacity” States GFDD Fellow Hilary Lohmann

    To celebrate the release of its latest publication series Research and Ideas entitled Climate Change in the Dominican Republic: Impact on Coastal Resources and Communities, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization Fundación Global Democracia y Desarollo (Funglode) hosted GFDD Fellow Hilary Lohmann for a special presentation of her work at the UN Church Center on October 1. The presentation was followed by a panel
    discussion with policy experts including Dr. Ruben Torres, founder and president of Reef Check Dominican Republic, and Karen Kent, Senio Coastal Resources Manager at the Rhode Island University Coastal Resources Center.

  • New GFDD Advisory Committee

    Various personalities from the world of academia, medicine, communication, entertainment, sports, and design, among other sectors, are now part of the new Advisory Committee of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), which took shape yesterday at a meeting in New York that was presided over by GFDD President, Dr. Leonel Fernández and its Executive Director, Natasha Despotovic.

  • GFDD Book Launch and Discussion on Dominican Republic and China: Exchange, Trade, and Investment

    Under the series “Research and Ideas”, GFDD will launch the book “Dominican Republic and P.R. China: Exchange, Trade, and Investment”, in which researcher Yuan Li demonstrates through data and analysis the extent of Chinese economic influence in the Dominican Republic, including trade relationships, economic activity of the Chinese diaspora in the country, foreign direct investment, and policy recommendations to maximize the benefits of these relationships.
