GFDD/Funglode at Dominican Book Fair in New York with Publications, Presentation of Programs and Conference with Veloz Maggiolo
The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), participated once again in the Dominican Book Fair in New York, now in its ninth year. This year’s Book Fair was held at Gregorio Luperón High School in Manhattan from September 26-28.

GFDD to Meet with Civil Society Organizations in Lima, Peru
The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) will attend upcoming civil society organization meetings in Lima, Peru as part of its mission of engaging in strategic regional events that focus on relevant topics to the socioeconomic sustainable development of the Americas. Other non-governmental organizations, community groups, labor unions, and similar groups and foundations will also be in attendance at the meetings in October.

Applications are now open for the next Global Dominican Academic Exchange (GDAE) program, being held at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts from November 2-8, 2015. GFDD Film “Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience” Will be Screened on October 18th at the United Nations Association Film Festival
The GFDD film, “Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience” has been chosen to screen at the upcoming 18th United Nations Association Film Festival (UNAFF), held in California this October. “Garbage or Resource?” has been screened at over a dozen different international film festivals since its production in 2013, and has won several awards including Best Documentary at the Miami Short Film Festival (MSFF), Best Documentary at the Green Lens Environmental Film Festival, and
the Second Place Fan Coral Award at the Reef Renaissance Film Festival.

GFDD and Funglode to Launch Climate Change Publication at the UN during the General Assembly 70th Meeting
GFDD and Funglode will launch a new edition of their publication series Research and Ideas in English and in Spanish, on Thursday October 1 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. The publication which is titled Climate Change in the Dominican Republic: Coastal Resources and Communities isauthored by 2014 GFDD Fellows, Ms. Hilary Lohmann and Mr. Mat Rosa, post graduate students in Marine Affairs at the University of Rhode Island.

GFDD/Funglode Signs Collaboration Agreement with Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn
The president of GFDD/Funglode, Dr. Leonel Fernández, signed an agreement with Medgar Evers College in New York to create a platform for reflection on Caribbean subjects, including perspectives on history, economics, politics, and the culture of his country as well as that of Cuba, Haiti, and Puerto Rico.

Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience Set to Screen at International Environment & Wildlife Film Festival and Forum on October 13
GFDD’s short film “Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience” will be screened on October 13th, 2015 at the 8th CMS Vatavaran International Environment & Wildlife Film Festival and Forum, India’s only International Film Festival, which takes place in New Delhi, October 9-13, 2015, at the Convention Centre. The film festival has become one of the most prestigious film festivals across the globe, and has been partners with GFDD’s Dominican Republic
Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) since early 2015. Both festivals are members of the Green Film Network.

Over 100 Players Join GFDD/Funglode VI Golf Classic
More than 100 golf players participated yesterday in the 6th Golf Tournament at Glen Head Country Club in New York. In a relaxed atmosphere, the players enjoyed perfect weather for playing golf and a day full of activities that culminated with a gala dinner attended by the President of GFDD and Funglode, Dr. Leonel Fernández. The event is part of GFDD’s initiatives to promote fundraising to support the implementation of a variety of projects, while spending time with partners and
friends of GFDD. The kickoff of the tournament was conducted, once again, by Dominican world-famous former baseball player Juan Marichal, while Natasha Despotovic, Executive Director of GFDD, gave the welcome remarks.
