GFDD/Funglode Attends the Final Weeks of Negotiations and Historic Adoption of the Draft Post-2015 Development Agenda
The final version of the draft Post-2015 Development Agenda (the Agenda), entitled ‘Transforming our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,’ was adopted by acclamation at the conclusion of an informal plenary of intergovernmental negotiations on Sunday August 2. GFDD/Funglode was present for the concluding session of a negotiating process that has spanned more than two years, as countries agreed to an ambitious agenda that features 17 new sustainable development goals
that aim to end poverty, promote prosperity and people’s well-being while protecting the environment by 2030.

“If We Empower Citizens We Can Help the World Become Better”, States Director of the Center for UN Studies at Seton Hall University
Seeking to provide a space for showcasing the role of civil society in promoting and implementing the Post-2015 Development Agenda, GFDD/Funglode put together a side event during the final Intergovernmental Negotiations on the UN’s Post-2015 Development Agenda, on Tuesday July 21st at United Nations headquarters. With the participation of academic experts and NGO representatives, GFDD/Funglode moderated an engaging panel discussion highlighting the role that local communities and
youth groups can play in promoting sustainable development and the UN’s new development framework.

GFDD/Funglode Call for Enhanced Public Participation of Communities in New UN Development Agenda during 2015 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development
The 2015 meeting of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) took place from 26 June – 8 July 2015, at UN Headquarters in New York. The theme of this year’s meeting was “Strengthening integration, implementation and review – the HLPF after 2015.” The meeting brought together nearly 1800 delegates, including Member States, Major Groups and other stakeholders, and intergovernmental and UN
organizations.

Head of the OAS Environmental Law, Policy and Good Governance Program explains how Sustainable Development Policy is Modeled on the Behavior of Civil Society
On July 16, the GFDD Global Roundtables welcomed Claudia De Windt, Head of the Environmental Law, Policy and Good Governance Program at the Organization of American States (OAS) Sustainable Development Department, for a session focused on the work of the OAS with regards to sustainable development, and in particular the importance of public participation and engagement with all relevant stakeholders to ensure effective public policy making.

DREFF and FUNIBER Sign Agreement to Promote Environmental Awareness, Sustainability
The Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), an initiative of GFDD/Funglode, signed a collaborative agreement with The Fundación Universitaria Iberoamericana (FUNIBER), to foster a culture at both institutions in the Dominican Republic that promotes management of natural resources and increases awareness regarding sustainable development.

As part of the 10th International Convention on Environment and Development held in La Habana, Cuba, GFDD’s short film “Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience” was screened to a global audience of activists, environmentalists, representatives from public and private sectors, decision-makers, stake-holders, and others from more than 45 countries.
