GFDD Participates in the OAS Dialogue with Civil Society
The 45th Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), was held mid June, 2015, at the OAS Headquarters in Washington, D.C. with the theme “Present and Future of the Organization of American States.” In this context, on Sunday, June 14, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) participated in two special dialogues between representatives of civil society and other social actors, with the Secretary General of the OAS, Mr. Luis
Almagro. More than 400 people representatives of civil society and other social actors from all over the region participated in the event.

GFDD/Funglode to Host Book Presentation and Panel Discussion on “Treating Parkinson’s Disease Psychosis with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy” in Santo Domingo
Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarollo (Funglode), through its Health Studies Center, will host an upcoming book presentation and discussion on one of the newest GFDD/Funglode publications. “Treating Parkinson’s Disease Psychosis with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy”, written by Henry A. Montero, helps fill an important information gap and contributes to the body of research on
Parkinson’s in Latin America and the Caribbean.

GFDD/Funglode to Organize Special Presentation of Lago Enriquillo: A Prelude to Climate at United Nations during High-Level Event on Climate Change
Seeking to provide a space for showcasing climate action and concrete initiatives, GFDD/Funglode are putting together a special UN side event on Monday June 29 that will join high-level policy experts and government representatives with the Director of Lago Enriquillo: A Prelude to Climate for an engaged debate on the topic of climate change.

Initially it was understood that the Constitution of 2010 was conceived as a rigid constitution. This means that as our Magna Carta, and as such occupying a superior position in the legal hierarchy, it should be difficult to reform or amend.

@dominicanaonline & @zonacolonialrd Launch “Discover your Colonial Zone”
The GFDD website, Dominicanaonline, and the @zonacolonialrd Instagram account are launching “Discover your Colonial Zone” photo competition. The contest welcomes professional as well as amateur photographers to submit their best pictures of Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone starting on June 9th until June 25th, 2015. In addition to fabulous prizes, the ten winners will be invited to participate in a photo exhibition in Santo Domingo and will have their pictures published in
Dominicanaonline. Winners will be announced on July 3rd.

GFDD & Funglode hosted a special side event at the United Nations during the 8th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) on Thursday June 11. The lunchtime event, moderated by Marc Jourdan, GFDD UN Representative, presented the latest addition to the publication series Research and Ideas: a research study carried out by Henry A. Montero, a 2014 GFDD fellow on the topic of ‘Treating Parkinson’s
Disease Psychosis with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy’.

GFDD Representing Civil Society at XLV General Assembly of the OAS
The 45th Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), will be held on June 15-16, 2015 at OAS Headquarters in Washington, D.C. with the theme “Present and Future of the Organization of American States.” Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) will participate in these meetings, as well as in two special dialogues. These will take place on Sunday, June 14, and include the Secretary General and the Assistant Secretary
General of the OAS, representatives of civil society, and other social actors addressing pressing issues relevant to the OAS’s efforts in the region.

InteRDom Summer Program 2015 Kicks Off in Santo Domingo
The 2015 InteRDom Summer Program officially began on June 1st, 2015 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and welcomed a diverse group of students. Scholars in the program hail from the United States, Germany, and Italy, significantly expanding our reach of international students.

Screening of “Planet Ocean” Closes Week of Environmental Awareness at Unibe
Thanks to the agreement between the Dominican Universities Environmental Network (RAUDO by its acronym in Spanish) and GFDD’s Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), the 2015 Environment Week hosted several screenings of environmental films, in addition to exhibitions, lectures, and workshops on creative recycling.
