Dominican Productions Woodpeckers and Jeffrey, Award Winners at the Havana Film Festival in New York
The Dominican films Woodpeckers (Carpinteros) and Jeffrey received awards in the eighteenth edition of the New York Havana Film Festival, an internationally recognized competition that celebrates Latin American film. Thanks to the support of GFDD/Funglode’s Dominican Film Showcase and the Dominican Republic’s General Directorate of Film (DGCINE) both productions were screened in New York between March 30 and April 7, accompanied by their
respective directors, José María Cabral and Yanillis Pérez.

Newest GFDD Fellow Sergio Morales Will Research Environmental Impact Assessment Tools in the Dominican Republic
The Fellows Program, an initiative of GFDD and FUNGLODE, in collaboration with the Instituto Global de Altos Estudios en Ciencias Sociales (IGLOBAL), is glad to introduce its latest scholar Sergio Morales, PhD candidate in Law and Political Science from the University of Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain. Newest Fellow Aireona Bonnie Raschke Researches Ecotourism Development in the Caribbean through the Whale Watching Industry in the Dominican Republic
The Fellows Program, an initiative of GFDD and FUNGLODE, is happy to introduce its latest scholar Aireona Bonnie Raschke, PhD candidate in Biology and Society at Arizona State University. Aireona’s research focuses on ecotourism development and the whale watching industry in the Caribbean, and its effect on native cetacean species and local communities in the Dominican Republic. Her field work through the Fellows Program will be conducted over the spring and summer of 2016.
