The Second DGT of the Year Brings Artist Xiomara Fortuna to the City of New York
The second Dominican Get-Together (DGT) of this year brings to the city of New York Dominican multifaceted artist Xiomara Fortuna. She is a singer, songwriter, composer and researcher of Dominican culture, with over 38 years of musical career. In this complimentary event, which will take place on April 17, the audience will have the opportunity to talk with Xiomara about her career and her life. In this live concert Xiomara will perform some of her most famous songs.

An enthusiastic audience attended this year’s edition of BLUE Ocean Film Festival, held during November 3-9, 2014 in the city of St. Petersburg, Florida, where they had the opportunity to see the documentary Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience on Friday, November 7, a film produced by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode). The documentary, which was a
finalist in the category of Foreign Language Film, was directed by Natasha Despotovic, Executive Director of GFDD.

GFDD to Host Panel Discussion on “The Film Industry in the Dominican Republic as an Engine of Socio-Economic Development” in Washington, D.C.
The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), through its initiative Dominican Film Showcase (DFS), will host a discussion panel on “The Film Industry in the Dominican Republic as an Engine of Socio-Economic Development”. The panel will take place on Thursday, November 20, 2014 from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. at the GFDD Washington, DC Office: 1629 K Street NW, Suite 1100, Washington, DC. A light lunch will be served.

GFDD Presents the Documentary Descubre Barahona-Pedernales: Orgullo de mi Tierra
Next Monday, October 6, 2014 Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) will present the documentary Descubre Barahona-Pedernales: Orgullo de mí Tierra. The event, also coordinated by the “Asociación de Barahoneros de Nueva York”, will take place at 6:00 pm at the Isabella Home Center, located on 515 Audubon Avenue in New York. Festival Brings Latin Poetry to New York’s Financial District –Where Creativity Never Sleeps
Thanks to support from GFDD and FUNGLODE, the City’s financial district was revived with echoes of dulcet prose as 30 accomplished Latin Poets from the US and abroad, including the Dominican Republic, read excerpts of their work at the opening ceremony of the Latin American Poetry Festival in NYC, October 9-11.
