Rio + 20 Audience Experience Educational Aquatic Tour of the Dominican Republic
On Sunday, June 17, 2012, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, in partnership with the Sylvia Earle Alliance, presented “Oceans in Google Earth as an Educational Tool: A Dominican Republic Perspective,” at the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Panel Discussion: The Financial Crisis and its Impact on Youth Unemployment

2012 CCNY Service Learning Program Is Underway with Dialogue and Workshops
Participants in the 2012 InteRDom-City College Service Learning Program spent the week of June 11, 2012 participating in orientation sessions, seminars, workshops and dialogues with experts to capacitate them for the important gardening project they are to perform in two semi-urban Dominican communities, Bayona and Cielo.

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) is partnering with UBUNTU – World Forum on Civil Society Networks to coordinate the side event “Food, sustainability and global democracy: challenges and perspectives” on June 18 from 9:30 am – 11:00 am, in room T-8, in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, during the framework of the Sustainable Development Dialogues leading up to the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio +20), to be convened June 20-22.

GFDD and FUNGLODE New Perspectives: Dominican Republic; Photo Exhibit Evokes Tropical Island Sensation
On June 7, 2012, a Brooklyn elementary school gym was magically transformed into an island paradise at the opening reception of New Perspectives: Dominican Republic Photo Exhibit. Principle Cristina Fuentes said that the exhibit allowed those attending to experience “the real sensation of being on an idyllic tropical Caribbean island”, especially one as beautiful as the Dominican Republic.

On Tuesday, June 5, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) convened a reception with active Dominican leaders in the New York City academic community. Student leaders and faculty met with the Foundation’s executives and staff to present GFDD’s programs and projects and to learn more about the innovative and influential work being spearheaded by Dominican youth leaders.
