Dr. Leonel Fernández Launches Book of Speeches in New York City
With a spacious room filled with Dominicans and other Latin residents in New York, the president of GFDD/Funglode, Dr. Leonel Fernández, put into circulation his book collection “Democracy, Modernity and Progress,” a compilation of the main speeches made during his three terms as leader of the country, on Friday night.

During the afternoon of Wednesday, April 26, 2017, GFDD/Funglode´s President, Dr. Leonel Fernández, met with Dominican American National Roundtable (DANR) Chairman Nestor Montilla Sr., DANR Senior Vice President Alejandro Benjamin, professor at Bergen County Community College, Dr. Maria Teresa Montilla, President of the Institute for Latino Studies and businessman Fernando Aguasvivas at the headquarters of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) in New York
City.

Five and Six Year Old Students from Two Santo Domingo Schools Take Part in Fun, Educational Recycling Workshops
ReCrearte coordinator Lucia Marte had a busy day on Thursday, April 27, when she facilitated creative recycling activities at Escuela Higuero Abajo and Escuela Perantuen in Santo Domingo, DR. Marte’s first stop was in the morning at Escuela Higuero Abajo, where she was joined by 14 students, as well as two teachers from that school.

DREFF Environmental Film Also in the 2017 Santo Domingo International Book Fair
As part of the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival’s (DREFF) mission to promote as well as educate and spread awareness about good environmental practices, the Funglode/GFDD stand in the 2017 Santo Domingo International Book Fair was the scene for screenings of environmental film, one activity among the jam-packed agenda of events organized by those foundations.

Celebrate International Recycling Day at Expo ReCrearte!
Expo ReCrearte, an event held in celebration of International Recycling Day on May 17, is organized by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) ReCrearte program, and done in collaboration with the ECOESCUELA project of the Dominican Republic Institute for Environmental Law (IDARD, for its acronym in Spanish).

GFDD Commemorates Earth Day in the National Botanical Garden with more than 200 High School Students
On April 23, to commemorate Earth Day, more than 200 students from schools in Santo Domingo participated in screenings of the documentaries “10 Billion, What”s on Your Plate,” by Director Valentin Thurn, and “The True Cost,” by Andrew Morgan, within the Year Round Environmental Film Screenings Program of the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF).

Dr. Leonel Fernández to Launch Book Collection in New York and Florida: “Democracy, Modernity and Progress”
President of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), Dr. Leonel Fernández, will be holding book launches at the end of April in New York and Florida, for his new publication, a compilation of political speeches delivered during his three presidential terms, previously launched in Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros.

GFDD Participates in UN General Assembly Interactive Dialogue on Harmony with Nature
In commemoration of International Mother Earth Day, GFDD/FUNGLODE participated in the Interactive Dialogue of the 71th Session of the General Assembly on Harmony with Nature on Friday, April 21, at the UN Headquarters. This year, the theme of the dialogue was “The Earth Jurisprudence”, recognizing that the Earth is the source of all laws that govern life.

All Research and Ideas Publications Are Now Available for Free in Our Websites!
Global GFDD is pleased to announce that all books published by GFDD Fellows through the Research and Ideas Series are now available online for free download. Among the topics investigated by GFDD Fellows have been sustainable development in the Dominican Republic, relations and trade between the DR and the People’s Republic of China, and cognitive behavioral therapy as a way to treat Parkinson’s Disease, among many other interesting areas of research.
