InteRDom Summer Interns Come Face to Face with the Dominican Republic’s Colonial Past
The InteRDom Summer 2017 interns, along with Global Foundation for Democracy and Development/Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (GFDD/Funglode) staff, visited the Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone, the oldest part of Santo Domingo and one of the first cities founded by Europeans in the Americas. The group took part in a variety of cultural and historical activities, with a focus on learning about the Dominican Republic’s colonial past.

ReCrearte Holds Workshop and Recycled Art Exhibition as Part of APEC University’s Environmental Week
In accordance with its mission to spread awareness about environmental issues and promote environmental sustainability, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) ReCrearte program participated in APEC University’s 2017 Environmental Week with an art exhibition and workshop led by Lucia Marte, the ReCrearte coordinator.

As the United Nations commemorated the first edition of its Ocean Conference from June 5 to 9, 2017, GFDD and Funglode took this opportunity to host its own side event and raise awareness of the special relationship that the Dominican Republic has with the Ocean and the challenges it faces to achieve sustainable development. The Universities UNAPEC, UNIBE and UNPHU Celebrate World Environment Day Alongside DREFF with a Diverse Lineup of Documentaries
UNAPEC, UNIBE and UNPHU, institutions of higher learning in the DR, will celebrate World Environment Day this week alongside GFDD/Funglode’s Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) and its Year-Round Environmental Film Screenings program with a diverse list of documentary screenings and debates about sustainable development and good environmental practices.

ReCrearte and Recicla 360 Join Forces to Promote Recycling Art with Three Workshops for Little Children
GFDD’s recycling art program, ReCrearte, will participate in the fourth edition of Recicla 360, in Santo Domingo, with three children’s workshops. In commemoration of World Recycling Day and World Environment Day, Recicla 360, which will be held at the Galería 360 shopping center, includes the participation of specialized presenters and artists who bring a fresh and creative vision to the environment, sustainable development and best practices, so that the whole family can take care

GFDD Meets with UNESCO Director and UN Ambassadors for Small Island Developing States
GFDD conducted official visits to UN missions in May to meet with heads of delegations and discuss future opportunities for collaboration. Yamile Eusebio, GFDD’s Acting Co-Executive Director, and Marc Jourdan, GFDD’s UN Programs & Outreach Manager met with Ambassador Uludong of the Permanent Mission of Palau to the United Nations, Ambassador Odo Tevi of Vanuatu, Ambassador Webson of Antigua and Barbuda and Ambassador Sareer of the Maldives over the course of the last few
weeks.

50 Dominican Leaders Visit the GFDD Offices in Washington DC to Discuss the Environment and Sustainable Development
A group of 50 Dominican leaders participated in an event organized by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) as part of the Dominican Embassy in the United States’ Leaders Program in Washington, DC. The group participated in a screening of the GFDD award-winning film, “Value of Life” and in a subsequent discussion about the environment, sustainable development and environmental film.
