New NYC Recycling Law Allows GFDD New York Office to Go Even Greener!
The New York office of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) is delighted to announce that since August 1, 2016 a new NYC recycling law has gone into effect requiring all commercial building in the city to recycle the following materials disposed of by its tenants, including: Paper, cardboard, metal, glass, plastic and beverage cartons.

Student Photography Exhibition.

GFDD and Funglode to Launch Sustainable Tourism Publication in Washington DC
The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization Fundación Global Democracia y Desarollo (Funglode) will host a panel discussion on the importance of sustainable tourism for the development of the Dominican Republic, as part of the official launch of the GFDD/Funglode publication entitled “Challenges for Sustainable Growth through Tourism in the Dominican Republic” by GFDD Fellow, Ms. Emma Fawcett. In addition to the author, several policy
experts the from the NGO community and the Dominican board of tourism will also be present to contribute to the discussion.

Promoting Environmental Conscientiousness and Sustainable Practices through Community Engagement during the DREFF
In an effort to promote sustainability and to engage Dominicans to take action, DREFF will put on several community activities during the week of the festival, from September 13th to the 18th. These activities will range from exploratory walks to workshops to social media competitions. DREFF aims to allow Dominicans to explore and enjoy the natural beauty of their homeland while simultaneously encouraging them to take a part in planning for its sustainability. In accordance with
this year´s slogan “Yo soy sostenible”, these activities will emphasize the importance of taking an active role in conservation today to live sustainably in the future.

GFN Award, the Oscar of Environmental Filmmaking, Hosted by DREFF 2016
The Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), which celebrates this year its 6th edition from September 13 to 18, is proud to be the first to host the annual Green Film Network (GFN) Award in the Americas. The Green Award, often called the Oscar of environmental filmmaking, is now in its third edition and will announce the winning film at the end of August. The chosen film will be screened during the festival’s closing ceremony to be held on September 18.
