    GFDD hosted the event “Innovation and Supply Chain Optimization Based on Production and Market Potentials in the Dominican Republic and the USA”, as part of Dominican Week 2016 (SEMDOMUSA), with the participation of GFDD’s partners National Supermarket Association (NSA) and the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). Within the framework of the annual initiative of AMCHAMDR, that has been supported by GFDD throughout the years, representatives from
    AMCHAMDR, NSA, CONEP, and other institutions discussed the main challenge (and great opportunity) that the Dominican business community faces: increasing trade between the Dominican Republic and the United States through innovation and supply chain optimization based on production and market potentials.

  • Leonel Fernández Makes Important Academic Contacts in Bogotá and Medellín

    As part of the broad institutional agenda covered during his recent trip to Colombia, the President of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), and former President of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernández, made contacts with important academic institutions in Bogotá and Medellín, in order to support the work carried out by the foundations he presides over.

    Her Excellency Ambassador Sabine Bloch met last week at the Embassy in Santo Domingo with Yamile Eusebio, Director of GFDD New York Office and Director of Operations of DREFF, who was accompanied by María Victoria Abreu, Programming Director of DREFF and GFDD’s International Affairs and Socio-Economic Development Program Manager.

  • UNA-DR Announces Conferencia Internacional de Las Américas (CILA) 2016 Taking Place in October

    The 12th Conferencia Internacional de Las Américas (CILA) 2016, to be held from October 26 to 30 in the Convention Center Hotel Barceló Bávaro in Punta Cana, Domincan Republic, is the largest student activity in the region, where students participate in committees with preselected topics directly from the official agenda of the United Nations and agencies part of the simulation. At the conference, young people have the opportunity to make speeches, negotiate, develop strategies and
    solve global problems through dialogue and consensus.

  • The Fellows Program Welcomes the New Researchers to the Dominican Republic

    The Fellows Program, an initiative of GFDD and Funglode, is glad to receive scholars Fenix Arias, PhD in Urban Education from City University of New York (CUNY); Aireona Bonnie Raschke, PhD candidate in Biology and Society at Arizona State University; Melvin Alvarez-Ortez, MA candidate in Marine Affairs from University of Rhode Island (URI); andwith the objective of strengthening the community of scholars. They will contribute to the expansion of academic research pertaining to
    social and economic development, the environment and global governance.

  • The Summer 2016 InteRDom Group visits the Zona Colonial and Colonial Gate 4D Cinema

    On Saturday, June 18, the Summer 2016 InteRDom group visited the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo led by tourist guide Trikke RD. Trikke is “a new three-wheeled scooter that allows you to have fun, exercise and transport yourself” its creators explain. Its stable platform is combined with an electrical system that allows the user to move in an easy, safe and environmentally-friendly way.

    The Globo Verde Dominicano Award, a GFDD/Funglode and DREFF initiative, is a unique opportunity for filmmakers, students and young professionals who want to venture into a fairly uncharted area in the Dominican Republic -the creation of environmental audiovisual material- as well as to show their work to a national and international audience. For example, the short film 7 Grams, winner of Premio Globo Verde Dominicano 2015, has been presented
    this year in 4 different international festivals: DCEFF in Washington, D.C.; Princeton Environmental Film Festival, in New Jersey; Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, in New York; and Festival del Cine Pobre de Gibara, in Holguin (Cuba); in addition to the Dominican Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) during the award ceremony last September. This year there´s still time, submit your work before July 31!
