GFDD Production “Value of Life,” in the Official Selection of Humboldt State University’s Annual Back to Nature Film Festival
The recent production by Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), the short film Value of Life, has been included in the Official Selection of the 4th Annual Back to Nature Film Festival that will take place April 29 at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California.

The secretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, and the president of GFDD/Funglode, Leonel Fernández, held a work meeting on Tuesday morning in which they analyzed the most pressing challenges currently facing Latin America and the Caribbean, such as organized crime and citizen insecurity.

Group of Dominican Students Experience Life of an Ivy League Undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania
The first Global Dominican Academic Exchange (GDAE) of this year was held in the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) from Abril 9-16, 2017, in collaboration with the on campus Student Association, Grupo Quisqueyano (GQ), who served as hosts and introduced the Dominicans to Ivy League student life. This is the second time that a GDAE group visited UPenn.

More than 300 Delegates from Different Regions of the Dominican Republic, Mexico and the United States Participate in the Dominican Model United Nations in New York
The twelfth edition of the New York Dominican Republic Model United Nations (NYDRMUN 2017), organized by the United Nations Dominican Association (ANURD, for its acronym in Spanish) and in collaboration with the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) and Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), was celebrated from April 12 to 18 in New York with the participation of more than 300 delegates from different regions of the Dominican Republic, Mexico and the
United States.

“The True Story Behind Chronicle of a Death Foretold”, an article by Dr. Leonel Fernández
Earlier this month the news came out that Miguel Reyes Palencia, Gabriel García Márquez’s inspiration for the character Bayardo San Román in his novel Chronicle of a Death Foretold, had died in Barranquilla, Colombia, at 95 years of age.

Dominican Productions Woodpeckers and Jeffrey, Award Winners at the Havana Film Festival in New York
The Dominican films Woodpeckers (Carpinteros) and Jeffrey received awards in the eighteenth edition of the New York Havana Film Festival, an internationally recognized competition that celebrates Latin American film. Thanks to the support of GFDD/Funglode’s Dominican Film Showcase and the Dominican Republic’s General Directorate of Film (DGCINE) both productions were screened in New York between March 30 and April 7, accompanied by their
respective directors, José María Cabral and Yanillis Pérez.

Sabores Dominicanos Foundation Recognizes DominicanaOnline for Its Contributions to Spread the Dominican Gastronomy
For their support in broadcasting information about Dominican gastronomy and for the success of the Third Gastronomic Forum (Foro Gastronómico), the consortium Fundación Sabores Dominicanos (FSD) recognized journalists and media, as well as professors and members of the Pan-American Confederation of Schools for Hospitality, Gastronomy and Tourism ( CONPEHT, for its acronym in Spanish) on April 6. The GFDD Dominicanaonline portal was one of those appreciated “for their support in the
dissemination of contents about Dominican gastronomy.” Arsenia Miranda, from the GFDD team, recieved recognition in Santo Domingo.

ReCrearte Participates in Colegio New Horizons’ Global Expo 2017 with an Art Recycling Workshop in Santo Domingo
ReCrearte joined together with the Dominican Republic’s Center for Agricultural and Forest Development (CEDAF, for its acronym in Spanish) to host on Wednesday, April 5 a recycling presentation and workshop with 62 students from the Colegio New Horizons, in Santo Domingo, DR. These activities were among many at the school’s Global Expo 2017.
