GFDD Announces 2017 Golf Tournaments
Beginning at 11:00 a.m., the day’s festivities kick off with brunch and quality time perfecting your swing on the driving range. Then, at 12:30 p.m., the tournament begins in earnest with a ceremonial shotgun start. Make sure your game is in peak condition: awards will be given to the day’s best teams as well as its top precision shooters. A cocktail reception will follow the tournament, and after, awards will be presented at a luxurious banquet.

GFDD Participates in the 6th Annual Dominican Film Festival in New York
GFDD is proud to partner with the Dominican Film Festival in New York to support and raise awareness of Dominican films in the United States. Featuring 67 films and their creators, the event has a comprehensive program including workshops, seminars, Q&A sessions, and family activities. With such a variety of activities, the 6th annual Dominican Film Festival clearly offers something for everyone. Also, featuring an impressive array of presenters, the Festival looks to pique the
interests of those looking to learn about or involve themselves in the area of filmmaking.

Environmental Education with GFDD at Chica Abuela Summer Camp
The film shorts were presented by Reydi Moreta, Social Networking and Promotion Coordinator at GFDD/Funglode, who gave the opening remarks and spoke of environmental initiatives which the organizations aim to impact through both their activities as well as those of their joint initiative – the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) and its year-round environmental film screenings. The stage was also shared with important members of the community and ANAMAR staff, who
led a discussion about the oceans and sea mammals.

Dr. Leonel Fernández Attends 11th Sol M. Linowitz Forum
Among an elite group of diplomats, current and ex-government officials, members of academia, journalists, and entrepreneurs, Dr. Leonel Fernández attended the 11th Sol M. Linowitz Forum, held from June 22nd to 24th in Washington, DC to provide valuable insight on a range of high-impact issues, such as opportunities for sustainable growth, current challenges to worldwide democracy, and US-Latin American relations in the Trump age. A member of the Inter-American Dialogue since 2001,
Dr. Fernández has delivered keynote addresses and convened prominent thought leaders on topics of interest to the Dominican Republic and all of Latin America.

InteRDom Summer 2017: Mirabal Sisters Museum and the Ruta del Cacao
The second Summer 2017 InteRDom cultural excursion took place on Saturday, July 1st. Both interns and InteRDom staff departed from the Funglode headquarters and headed to San Francisco de Macorís to take part in the “Ruta del Cacao” (Chocolate Trail) tour. Upon their arrival, the interns were presented with glasses of warm cocoa, given a tour of the company’s facilities and educated on the process of cocoa production by knowledgeable employees.

“The Improvement of Health is Connected to Technological Advances that have Decreased the Cost of Crucial Medicine” States Director of World Health Organization during GFDD UN Event on Affordable Treatment
GFDD partnered with the United Nations Association of the United States of America Council of Organizations (UNA USA COO) and the Institute for Life Sciences Collaboration to host an International Conference on Novel Diagnostics & Affordable Treatment. The event, titled Advancing UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health & Well-being) took place at the UN Church Center and was a unique opportunity for attendees to engage with a diverse panel of speakers that included
high-level representatives from the World Health Organization, the World Bank and several medical practitioners.

ReCrearte Comes to Santo Domingo’s Galería 360 Mall
On June 11th and 25th program coordinator Lucia Marte, on behalf of GFDD/Funglode’s ReCrearte Program held workshops in Santo Domingo’s Galería 360 Mall. At the workshops, children aged 3 to 11 years old learned to recycle both paper and plastic products. All told, over 60 children accompanied by approximately 110 adults participated; learning the value of common waste products, raising awareness for environmental issues, and promoting the protection of planet Earth and its natural
resources.

As an Engaged Civil Society Organization, GFDD/Funglode Joins Hemispheric Efforts Towards Human Rights, Rule of Law, and Democracy
As a civil society organization registered to the Organization of American States (OAS), GFDD-Funglode participated at the 47th General Assembly, celebrated June 19-21, 2017 in Cancún, México. The Foundation has attended this annual event in the past as part of its institutional mission to foster collaboration and exchange between the Dominican Republic and the Western Hemisphere.

GFDD Elected to Vice Chair of United Nations NGO Executive Committee on Financing for Development
In recognition of GFDD’s efforts in the areas of Financing for Development (FfD), the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development was elected to the United Nations NGO Executive Committee on FfD by unanimous vote on June 7, 2017 for a two-year term. The new role will provide an opportunity to network and dialogue at the UN with those working on FfD issues and collaborate with the global network of FfD organizations.
