  • InteRDom Participated at New York Model United Nations Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (NYMUNLAC 2018)

    GFDD, along with its sister organization Funglode, headed the opening this past April 1th of the New York Model United Nations Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (NYMUNLAC2018) organized by Global Muners and ANURD. The opening ceremony was held at the Grand Hotel Hyatt in New York City, with the participation of hundreds of students from all over the world.

  • Summer 2017 InteRDom Interns Take Part in Their Final Excursion

    Over the weekend, the Summer 2017 InteRDom interns took part in the third and final cultural activity of their program. The interns had the opportunity on Saturday, August 5th to enjoy a full day in the municipality of Baní, where they visited a number of truly picturesque landscapes. Accompanied by InteRDom staff, the interns departed the headquarters of Funglode at 10:00 a.m. and were told of the significance of the locations they were about to visit on the way.

  • InteRDom Summer 2017: Mirabal Sisters Museum and the Ruta del Cacao

    The second Summer 2017 InteRDom cultural excursion took place on Saturday, July 1st. Both interns and InteRDom staff departed from the Funglode headquarters and headed to San Francisco de Macorís to take part in the “Ruta del Cacao” (Chocolate Trail) tour. Upon their arrival, the interns were presented with glasses of warm cocoa, given a tour of the company’s facilities and educated on the process of cocoa production by knowledgeable employees.

    The InteRDom 2017 summer session began on June 5th at Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) facilities in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where students received information about the program from GFDD Acting Co-executive director Yamile Eusebio. The 2017 InteRDom summer session participants include Viviana Vizcaino, a Business Administration and Economics Major from Baruch College in New York; Sasha Rosado, a Political Science and
    International Law and Human Rights Major from Joh Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, and Christian Burlock, who is studying Spanish and Mathematics at Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama.

  • InteRDom Summer Interns Come Face to Face with the Dominican Republic’s Colonial Past

    The InteRDom Summer 2017 interns, along with Global Foundation for Democracy and Development/Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (GFDD/Funglode) staff, visited the Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone, the oldest part of Santo Domingo and one of the first cities founded by Europeans in the Americas. The group took part in a variety of cultural and historical activities, with a focus on learning about the Dominican Republic’s colonial past.

    The group of Dominican students that participated in the last Global Dominican Academic Exchange (GDAE) at the University of Pennsylvania (UPENN) from April 9 to 16, 2017 received their participation certificates from Dr. Leonel Fernández yesterday. Also present at the event, which was held at Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) headquarters in Santo Domingo, were Marco Herrera, executive director of Funglode; Yamile Eusebio, interim co-executive director of Global
    Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD); Rocío Billini, director of academic exchanges at UASD and Tomiris Silfa, assistant administrator for academic exchanges at UASD.

  • Dominican Law Students Can Now Apply to the Prestigious University of Washington’s Transnational Law Program!

    The Global Dominican Academic Exchange (GDAE) program and the University of Washington (UW) School of Law have opened the application period for the Summer Institute in Transnational Law and Practice that will take place from September 1 to 15, 2017 in Seattle, Washington, United States. Applications will be received until June 30, 2017 and participants will receive a discount of 50 percent for the registration cost of the program.

  • Group of Dominican Students Experience Life of an Ivy League Undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania

    The first Global Dominican Academic Exchange (GDAE) of this year was held in the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) from Abril 9-16, 2017, in collaboration with the on campus Student Association, Grupo Quisqueyano (GQ), who served as hosts and introduced the Dominicans to Ivy League student life. This is the second time that a GDAE group visited UPenn.

    InteRDom attended the ninth annual Baruch College Work Abroad Fair on October 20th, 2016, where different institutions met with students to showcase their study, intern and volunteer abroad programs available for 2017. The fair was hosted by the Baruch College Weissman Center for International Business,  at the Information and Technology Building in New York City. The event attracted the participation of more than 40 students mostly from the Business Academic
    Department of Baruch College, which included Marketing, Finance and Accounting majors.

This natural treasure has existed for thousands of years but was only recently discovered and is now one of the most visited tourist attractions in the country. Each year about 50,000 tourists visit, explain the coordinators.

  • The Summer 2016 InteRDom Group visits the Zona Colonial and Colonial Gate 4D Cinema

    On Saturday, June 18, the Summer 2016 InteRDom group visited the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo led by tourist guide Trikke RD. Trikke is “a new three-wheeled scooter that allows you to have fun, exercise and transport yourself” its creators explain. Its stable platform is combined with an electrical system that allows the user to move in an easy, safe and environmentally-friendly way.

  • Five Dominican Students Successfully Complete Transnational Law Certificate Through GDAE

    On October 26, 2014, five Dominican students from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) completed the Transnational Law Program at the University of Georgia School of Law, earning a certificate for the week-long program and bringing new knowledge and insight to the Dominican Republic on international and transnational policies in the areas of: environmental law, corporate law, criminal law and constitutional law.

During the two and a half hour bus ride to Bayahibe, the group’s tour guide informed the students about the vegetation, wildlife and growing tourist industry of the Eastern region of the country.

  • InteRDom Organizes Weekend Excursion to Las Galeras

    During the previous weekend, the InteRDom Program organized a trip to the Samaná Penninsula for an overnight stay in Las Galeras, renown worldwide for its exquisite virgin landscapes. Travelling along the newly constructed Samaná highway, the group had the opportunity to view a cross section of the nation’s countryside. Upon arriving at the hotel Villa Serena, students swam, explored the beach, rode bikes along trails that paralleled the coastline and relaxed while enjoying the
    scenic grounds of the hotel.

    On Saturday, June 28, 2008, the InteRDom program organized its second major excursion of the summer, a cultural trip to visit the Mirabal Sisters Museum in Salcedo and the Centro Leon in Santiago. During the three-hour bus ride to the interior, tour guide, Tirso Cabra, recounted the story of the Mirabal Sisters. Among the most famous female protagonists throughout Dominican history, the sisters where ordered to be killed by former dictator, Rafael Trujillo.

    InteRDom students had the opportunity to visit some of the hidden wonders of the Dominican Republic when they ventured into the Fun Fun Caves (formerly known as the Devil’s Cave), near the town of Hato Mayor on the eastern part of the island. The fabulous caves are said to be amongst the largest in the world and are the longest in the Caribbean.
